Customising a Raw Diet

Case Study 1 (Golden Retreivers)

Large dogs like golden retrievers are very prone to a heart condition – DCM. It appears that a lack of the amino acid taurine may play an important role in the disease process. This is where customisation comes in for disease prevention.

Recommendation:
Create a diet with more muscle organs like heart, tongue and lungs for natural taurine. Pairing with colostrum that is fortified with magnesium taurate wouldn’t hurt too.

Case Study 2 (Scottish Folds)

Scottish folds are susceptible to degenerative joint disease most commonly affecting the tail, ankles, and knees which can result in reduced range of motion.

Recommendation:
For this breed, whether your cat has been diagnosed with osteo-chondrodysplasia (OCD) or not, it is good to put him on a customised diet. Other than a raw food diet high in protein, Scottish folds should receive regular supplements of green lipped mussels (for the glucosamine), hydrolyzed collagen, especially type II, and Vitamin C, from sea buckthorn.

Case Study 3 (Happy)

Happy is a poodle afflicted with epilepsy. On bad days, he could have 3 seizures in a few hours, each one lasting close to a minute. This was distressing to his owner, BiaoGe.

Recommendation:
While we were not able to find the cause of his problem, we found a way to alleviate his condition. Ever since putting Happy on a ketogenic diet (higher fat content) and adding MCT supplements in his colostrum, he has not had a relapse.

Case Study 4 (Black Nose)

Black Nose had persistent, excessive black ear wax buildup, with no known causes. Prescribed antibiotics and home remedies did not help. The wax buildup caused discomfort and other signs of infection like redness and swelling.

Recommendation:
Excessive wax buildup can occur from allergies, a bacterial infection, systemic inflammation, ear mites, or a yeast infection. Black Nose went on a clean raw diet, with diatomaceous earth supplements to help remove toxins, and drank fermented colostrum to introduce probiotics into his body. Black Nose was also encouraged to explore his garden, with the sun, soil and fresh air to help foster a diverse microbiome. Ear wax reduced dramatically after a couple of months.
